The Rustic Goat Eatery & Lounge and Martell Cognac teamed up recently for an "Iconic Blueprints" event. This 4-tier, 18-layer cake was the baby that came from that union. The hand-drawn chalkboard lettering offset with a few gold details stayed true to the brand and sat perfectly in the modern lounge venue. Note to all: if you haven't tried cognac buttercream yet...add it to your bucket list!!
Sometimes a simply, buttercream, birthday cake is just what the doctor ordered. Cake, buttercream—what's not to love?! So it doesn't have a fancy fondant outfit on, but hey, it's still a long way from being classed as a naked cake. This week's cake is still dressed to impress, and strutting it's stuff with a contemporary swirl of a soft, warm shade of purple we like to call Orchid. What would your birthday buttercream color be?
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!! The holiday usually comes with an over-indulgence hashtag, so in contrast, the cake was a study in decadent minimalism. From it's trio of hand-crafted, golden fondant pumpkins, to it's cascading, chocolate ganache, this cake couldn't quite make up it's mind whether it was simple-and-chic or gloriously-decadent! Four layers of rich chocolate cake paired with espresso buttercream, fudge swirls and creamy ganache...Mmmmmm...you decide. Let's be honest though, after the turkey, the stuffing, the sides and the gravy, who even has room for dessert, right?! Either way it was the perfect compliment to the beautiful decor and tablescape created by Tyson Dale Baker.
#overindulgence :-)
This year, summer's most requested birthday party theme is all about the snow and ice!! Yes...that's right, this week's cake is a Frozen-themed masterpiece, complete with edible cake toppers. I'm not denying the fact that I watched the movie several times (purely for inspirational purposes lol). As a result, "Let it Go" is now firmly stuck in my head. Again, not complaining, because I think I love Frozen just as much as the birthday girl herself! Once again, Happy Birthday Kenadie!
Absolutely loved making this cake for a friend who, needless to say, loves Woody...Happy Birthday Tyson!! While it was inspired by a cartoon character, there was nothing childish about the flavor—this was one grown-up cake—white cake with layers of Bailey's Irish Cream mousse. Mmm Mmm Mmm!!
It's not often you get a cake that needs to be unisex (other than a wedding cake, of course, and let's be honest, those are really all about the bride). So this one was created to be a fabulous, two-sided, 'his and hers' cake! Hand-painted details gave it a vintage vibe, while jewels and feathers finished it off with a classic opulence typical of the era.
Forget about decadent chocolate or vanilla. It's St. V-day people, and chances are, if there are cake orders to be filled, they're gonna be Red Velvet…every last one of them!
I'm happiest when there is something sweet within reach! It's true. Something about sugar translates to happiness in my brain—not the best news for my hips, mind you, because who wants to just look at sweet treats?! Having a sliced-open cake in the studio was probably not the smartest move (considering it is January and those New Year resolutions are still in the forefront of my mind), however, I really wanted to show you what goes into a De la Creme cake slice. So I made a second cake just for you guys (*sigh) oh, the sacrifices I'm willing to make :-) Be sure to scroll to the end of this post to see what goes on under the fondant here at De la Creme. And bring on the dessert tables…the more sweet, delicious treats, the better!
So, what goes into a slice of De la Creme cake (other than sugar and spice and all things nice)? Well, since we pay just as much attention to what goes on under the fondant as we do to creating masterpieces that wow your guests at first glance, even our slices are beautiful in their own rights (and after taste-testing way beyond what was actually necessary I can assure you, they taste pretty darn good too). Whether ordering one of our standard cakes or splurging on a premium cake (like the Chocolate Raspberry Amaretto example below), you get four layers of cake and three layers of filling all nestled under a snug coat of buttercream and fondant...and a whole lot of happiness free of charge :-)
